Doctor Fausto Caruana

I was born in Catania in 1979 and educated in Parma.

• 2004 - I took my degree in Philosophy at the University of Parma, where I specialized in philosophy of mind, cognitive science, philosophy of language and mathematical logic.
• 2008 - I took my Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the School of Medicine at the University of Parma, where I specialized in neurophysiology.
• 2009-2010 – Post-Doc at the Dept. Neuroscience at the School of Medicine at the University of Parma.
• 2010 – Fellow at Neuroscience and Brain Technologies, Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), Genova.
• I am currently teaching Neuroscience to undergraduate students of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Parma.
• I am in the editorial board of "Sistemi Intelligenti" and "Topoi. An International Review of Philosophy".
• I am currently Post-Doc at the Brain Center for Social and Motor Cognition, Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), Unit of Parma, at the Dept. of Neuroscience at the School of Medicine at the University of Parma.

My research interests are the study of the insular cortex and the motor system, and their involvement in social cognition, by means of a multidisciplinary approach.

My technical abilities include intracortical microstimulation, single cell recording and iEEG analysis.

I am particularly interested in the role of the ‘mirror mechanism’ and in its presence in different cognitive domains and cortical regions.

I’m also interested in the cognitive science and the philosophy of mind, with a particular attention to the embodied cognition, perception, and the action-perception interaction.
