In the area of waste prevention, there are several actions undertaken during the recent biennium, both on the separate collection front and on the special waste front. Particularly important among these is the adoption of policies for the reuse of discarded IT materials; working in this direction, the University arranges for the donation of discarded PCs, screens, printers and accessories to Associations, Educational Institutions and other Public and Private Institutions that operate for the achievement of purposes of public interest and that have notified prior need.
The adherence of the University of Parma, the only one in Italy, to the “Rivending” project aimed at the separate collection of polystyrene cups with the aim of providing for their complete reuse, as well as the promotion of the use of UNIPR-branded personal water bottles specially designed and distributed with the intention of decreasing the use of plastic bottles, to which descends the related “pilot project” of installing dispensers of microfiltered and microbiologically pure drinking water in some plexuses, prodrome to the extension to all the University's premises, represent a significant start of a policy of reducing the use of plastic towards the goal of UNIPR “plastic free.”
For the purposes of waste prevention and reduction, the University of Parma intends to proceed with the implementation of measures aimed at drastically limiting the use of plastics in the daily lives of students and university staff, including by increasing the activation of drinking water dispensers.
