Special waste refers to any substance or object that the producer discards, intends to discard, or is required to discard, arising from activities other than domestic ones. This category includes, by way of example but not limitation, waste generated by industrial, artisanal, commercial, service, healthcare, agricultural, construction and demolition activities, as well as by research and teaching activities.

The special waste produced by the University’s teaching, research, and institutional activities includes WEEE (such as refrigerators and IT equipment), bulky waste, paper resulting from archive disposal, as well as chemical and healthcare waste. These types of waste are generally collected in temporary storage areas at the university facilities where they are generated and are subsequently sent for treatment through authorized environmental operators operating in the area. Each University facility ensures the proper internal management of special waste generated by its institutional activities, in compliance with current national legislation and European environmental directives.
