ATMOSPHERIC EMISSIONS INVENTORY – YEAR 2023
The University of Parma's CO₂ Emissions Inventory for the year 2023 represents the University's first comprehensive assessment of greenhouse gas emissions. The report analyzes and quantifies emissions generated by the University's main activities, including electricity consumption, natural gas use, district heating, transportation, and green area management, while also evaluating the contribution of trees across the various campuses through CO₂ sequestration.
In 2023, total emissions were estimated at approximately 7,700 tonnes of CO₂, mainly resulting from electricity consumption (55%) and natural gas use (39%). The Science and Technology Campus was identified as the largest contributor to overall emissions, while the more than 3,300 trees located throughout the University's premises absorb approximately 82 tonnes of CO₂ each year, helping to mitigate the University's environmental impact.
Developed in accordance with the guidelines of the Italian University Network for Sustainable Development (RUS), the inventory serves as a key tool for monitoring the climate impact of University activities and for defining future decarbonization and environmental sustainability strategies.
