After Climbing For Climate, thanks to the collaboration between the University of Parma and the Italian Alpine Club (CAI) – Parma Section, with the additional involvement of the CAI subgroup of Borgotaro, a series of three thematic excursions in the Parma Apennines is once again being organized this year. The initiative is open to university students and focuses on environmental and sustainability issues.
During the excursions, university lecturers and local experts will provide thematic insights, while CAI volunteers will offer information and interesting facts about hiking and mountain activities.
As in the previous edition, to reach the starting point of the excursions and to minimize environmental impact, participants will travel by train from Parma to Borgotaro.
From Borgo Val di Taro station, minibuses will be available to reach the start of the hike in the Valdena area (a journey of about 15 minutes). The route follows a trail that passes through chestnut woods, then conifers, and finally broadleaf forests, leading up to the ridge at Passo del Borgallo. The path then continues along the ridge, offering striking panoramic views, until reaching the memorial stone dedicated to the Partisan Resistance. Shortly after, the trail descends with a detour to the small church of Valvenera, before returning to Valdena. Along the way, there are numerous interesting historical, cultural, and natural highlights.
From Valdena, participants will return to Borgo Val di Taro station and then take the train back to Parma.
Appropriate mountain equipment is required (trekking boots with Vibram-type soles or suitable footwear; windbreaker; trekking poles recommended; water bottle with at least 1 liter of water; sunglasses and sunscreen), as well as a packed lunch.
