Awareness and outreach campaigns

In addition to the concrete initiatives already undertaken, the Athenaeum intends to flank an ever-increasing educational and communicative commitment to the culture of respect for the environment and sustainability in general, and a determined drive to dematerialize administrative processes, making use of digital technologies, with significant implications on paper consumption and paper waste prevention.

Given the critical issues that emerged in the analysis of the state of affairs, there is also the need to improve the University's internal information aimed at students and staff on the proper management, prevention and sorting of waste assimilated to urban waste, especially considering that the heterogeneity of the academic community and the existence, in the territories of origin, of different rules, are determining factors that affect the effectiveness of waste sorting. In the logic of efficient waste sorting in the University, it is therefore essential to act by sensitizing users by encouraging more responsible behavior, thus having an impact not only within the University but also on the city and on the sustainable behavior in general of the university population as a whole. The aspects of communication and dissemination are beyond essential for waste prevention, where concrete opportunities arise from people's actual ability to reduce the use of paper and plastics or to preferentially resort to the use of recycled materials.

Internal involvement within the University should include awareness-raising and training actions, through new strategies for the dissemination of the principles of circular economy, sustainable mobility, reuse and waste prevention, as well as with regard to the proper conduct of waste separation, limiting paper printing and electricity consumption.
