On 23 September at 10 a.m. , the high-automation “Living Lab” greenhouse will be inaugurated at the Food Area of the Science and Technology Campus (Hall 19). The facility is an experimental infrastructure dedicated to research and innovation in the agri-food sector, developed as part of the PNRR – Agritech project.
It is not simply a greenhouse for cultivation, but a real-world laboratory where technologies for automation, precision agriculture and digital crop management are tested through the monitoring and control of parameters such as temperature, humidity, irrigation, substrate conditions and lighting.
The facility enables a continuous cycle of monitoring, automation, experimentation, data collection and analysis, and process optimisation, promoting more efficient use of water, energy and other production inputs.
Its location within the Food Project ecosystem, close to the National Agritech Centre and the Food Business Incubator, fosters integration between research, innovation, education, sustainability and technology transfer to agri-food companies.
The main value of the Living Lab Greenhouse therefore lies in transforming cultivation into a test bed for new technologies and sustainable production models, generating benefits for scientific research, education and training, innovation, efficient resource use and the development of the agri-food system.
