Due to the peculiarities of the research sector, specific actions are needed to overcome the many existing structural barriers to gender equality in the research and innovation sectors.
In October 2021, University of Parma approved the first Gender Report and the first Gender Equality Plan (so-called GEP) of our University.
These two important documents combined aim to concretely implement the statutory values, the principles of equality, and the enhancement of gender differences. They also contribute to implement and better define the university strategy on equal opportunities.
The Gender Report intends to offer an analysis of the data, segregated by gender, relating to our university context, in order to highlight the areas (study courses, disciplinary areas, sectors, functions, roles, tasks etc.) where there is a situation of overall equality or, on the contrary, a gender imbalance.
The document, constantly updated, will make it possible to identify corrective, targeted and effective actions to resolve the highlighted issues and to help closing the gender gap.
On the basis of the data collected in first Gender Report, the University of Parma has developed the first Gender Equality Plan, a programmatic document containing specific actions that the University will have to implement in the next three years, to close the gender gap within the institution and allow the enhancement of all diversities linked, for example, to variables such as age, culture, sexual orientation.
With the approval of the Gender Report and the GEP, the University of Parma demonstrates its commitment to ensure gender equality is achieved at every level, a significant global challenge of contemporary democracies.
