Recognition of foreign qualifications

To fasten the qualification evaluation procedures and facilitate the production of documents, it is possible to request Certificates of comparability and/or Certificates of verification of their foreign qualifications through the Diplo-me platform, managed by CIMEA, in line with the national legislation and procedures in force.

Foreign academic qualifications have no legal value in Italy, and it is therefore necessary to ask for their recognition if you wish to use them to participate in a call or to practice a profession.

How to apply
The applicant, non-EU national in possession of a residence permit or EU national, must submit a written request with stamp duty (Marca da bollo) to the Student Secretariat of the Degree Course to which he/she intends to apply for recognition using the A/10 Form.

The following documents must be enclosed to the form:

• Original of the upper secondary school qualification used for the admission to the University that issued the academic qualification;
• Translation in Italian language and legalization of the high school diploma issued by the Italian Diplomatic-Consular Representation competent for the territory in the Country where the diploma was issued;
• Declaration of value (Dichiarazione di Valore) of the baccalaureate diploma;
• Original of the foreign academic qualification awarded;
• Original of the detailed certificate of university examinations (stating the dates and locations of the examinations, if these were also held in part at universities other than the one that issued the qualification) issued by the university of graduation;
• Translation into Italian and legalization of the awarded academic qualification;
• Declaration of value (Dichiarazione di valore) of the awarded foreign academic qualification with indication of the legal duration of the course of study;
• Courses contents and description for each listed exam and official translation;
• Valid residence permit (non-EU nationals);
• Photocopy of the Identity Card/Passport and the Italian Tax Code;
• Passport-size photograph.

What to do after obtaining recognition
If the resolutions of the Degree Program Committee and Department Council fully recognize the submitted qualification, the resolution must be submitted for approval to the Academic Senate.
After the approval by the Academic Senate, it is necessary to pay the recognition fee of 258 euros (€) through the MAV bulletin, issued directly by the Student Secretariat.
Within 6 months from the resolution of the Academic Senate, the Student Secretariat will issue the degree parchment.
In the event that the foreign academic qualification is not fully recognized by the Degree Program Committee and by the Department Council, the student can obtain an abbreviation of the chosen course of study by submitting an enrolment request.

The equivalence to an Italian degree of a foreign qualification awarded in a foreign Country by a European citizen, and required by a national specific public call for employment in order to be admitted to the exams of that competition, allows participation in that specific competition without the issue of an Italian qualification.

Participating in public competitions for employment

• Submit the application to participate in the competition to the administration that published the notice, quoting the foreign qualification in the original language and asking to be admitted to the competition in application of art. 38 of the d. lgs. 165/2001 (conditional admission);
• Send the request for equivalence of the foreign qualification to the Department of Public Administration, pursuant to art. 38 of Legislative Decree 165/2001, by filling in the form made available by the Department of Public Administration itself: this form contains the list of all the documents necessary for submitting the application.
