Description of the project ObjectivesThe project OTTIMO aims to study and design fluid machines for small-scale ORC plants (< 50 kW). By using lumped parameter models and CFD simulations, the project seeks to characterize and optimize the geometries of the machines, thereby enhancing performance and overall cycle efficiency. The Universities of Ferrara and Parma, with established expertise in ORC systems and dynamic modeling of energy systems, are the proposing entities. ActivitiesThe project is structured into five Work Packages (WP): WP1: lumped parameter modeling of ORC cycles, WP2: design of an ORC expander, WP3: design of an ORC pump, WP4: guidelines for efficient fluid machine designWP5: management and dissemination. Dissemination activities include scientific publications, conference participation, and the use of digital channels to engage the public and sector stakeholders, thus contributing to the energy transition and waste heat recovery through the use of renewable sources.
