Abstract: The Hamiltonian formalism of classical mechanics leads to the concept of a momentum map and thus to the definition of a Hamiltonian group
action. This lecture will present some results of the corresponding theory that are fundamental for applications in complex geometry. Most of them can be viewed as a generalization of Mumford's Geometric Invariant Theory to arbitrary Kählerian manifolds.
