Building the City tests participatory approaches to urban regeneration by giving younger generations an active role in transforming public space. Architecture and artificial intelligence are used to visualise and compare alternative urban scenarios and to support dialogue among young people, institutions and local communities. The project treats urban design as a collective process that builds design skills, civic awareness and shared visions of the city.
One or more underused urban spaces in Parma become pilot laboratories. Work develops in four stages: listening to young people's needs; co-design workshops; visualisation of scenarios using generative AI; and public presentation through temporary installations, meetings and discussion. Students, young researchers and recent graduates take part in a process linking design, education and citizenship.
