What is the Transcript of Records?
The Transcript of Records (ToR) contains all the grades obtained during the mobility period. This document is important for validating academic results at the home university.
If exchange students do not take all the exams included in their study plan, this can cause delays in the issuance of the ToR. To facilitate timely verification, please complete and return the attached form listing all the exams you have passed and wish to be included in the ToR.
Within five weeks of you taking your final exam, the University of Parma will issue your Transcript of Records relating to the activities and results achieved during your mobility period. Please let us know as soon as possible when you have taken your final exam.
This document will list the exams you have passed and contain the marks and credits recognised in the Learning Agreement. We will send your Transcript of Records to both you, as our exchange student, and your home university by email.
If an exam you have passed is not registered, it is your responsibility to contact the lecturer to have it correctly entered into your ESSE3 profile.
Failed or missed exams do not appear in the ToR; if you have failed an exam and need recognition, you must request a certificate of failure from the lecturer of that course. You can find the form on the dedicated page.
Some exams do not have a numerical grade but only a pass/fail mark. If you need recognition with a numerical grade, you must request a certificate from the lecturer, indicating the grade (please note that the Transcript of Records will show the pass/fail mark).
Assessment and conversion of marks
At Italian universities, students can choose which exam session to enrol in, i.e. which date to take their exams on. If they are not satisfied with their mark, they can choose to reject it. In this case, the mark will not be recorded and the student can retake the exam in a subsequent session.
In general, exams are graded on a scale of 30, i.e. out of a maximum of 30 points. To pass an exam, you must obtain at least 18/30. The maximum grade is 30/30, but the professor may also award honours (30/30 with honours) for an excellent performance.
Alongside this system, there is another form of assessment: suitability. In this case, the examination does not result in a numerical mark, but simply concludes with the result of 'suitable' or 'unsuitable'.
Converting Italian grades is necessary because each country, and often each university, uses a different assessment system. Consequently, there is no direct correspondence between Italian grades and those of other countries. Each partner university may apply different criteria to interpret the results obtained in Italy.
Regarding the conversion of grades, the University of Parma adheres to the EGRACONS system.
