Description and purpose

SusTex aims to support the transition to a circular textile supply chain by integrating advanced ICT technologies for the recovery and reuse of textile waste. The project develops innovative circular supply chain models (a model that incorporates both primary and circular resource flows), decision-making tools and policy recommendations, involving public bodies, businesses and citizens to promote sustainability, innovation and new economic opportunities.

Purpose

SusTex aims to design and validate circular models for textile waste management based on resilient circular supply chain configurations, integrating ICT technologies and multi-criteria decision-making tools to evaluate alternative scenarios. The project also aims to support public policies for the definition of effective strategies, raise awareness among public and private stakeholders, and generate new economic opportunities in the textile sustainability sector.

Expected results

The expected results of the SusTex project include circular models and decision-making tools for textile waste management, simulated in different operational contexts. In addition, the expected results of the project include decision maps, technical databases and predictive models, useful for planning sustainable logistics networks. Finally, the project is expected to promote new economic opportunities and raise awareness among citizens and institutions about the importance of textile recycling.

Achieved results

As of 30 September 2025, the project has achieved the following results: (i) collaboration with industrial partner IREN Ambiente has begun according to plan; (ii) Work Packages 2 and 3 have been completed; (iii) all other Work Packages are ongoing; (iv) 9 scientific contributions have been presented at Scopus-indexed international conferences; (v) 3 scientific articles have been published or accepted in Scopus and WoS-indexed international journals.
