Executive Protocols of Scientific and Technological Cooperation

The General Directorate for the Promotion of the Country System of MAECI, through the Central Directorate for Innovation and Research, is in charge of negotiating and signing Programmes/Executive Protocols for bilateral scientific and technological cooperation. Executive Protocols are direct applications of specific bilateral Scientific and Technological Cooperation Agreements and are valid for several years.

Executive Protocols specify the research areas in which bilateral cooperation between Italy and the partner country shall focus on.

Based on these research areas, a special call for proposals is issued to select research projects that can be funded by both countries.

Executive Protocols list bilateral scientific and technological research projects that have been selected. These projects can be of two types:

  • "Mobility of Researchers" projects, for which mobility is bilaterally funded: specifically, the Scientific Cooperation Unit funds travel byItalian researchers and stays for foreign researchers;
  • "Great Significance" Projects, which are eligible for annual co-funding for project implementation, pursuant to Law 401/90.
