Event description

Piazza of Food.

Food City Design is an Academy developed for Parma European Youth Capital 2027 for young graduates interested in imagining more sustainable cities through food. The programme trains participants to connect public administrations, businesses, agri-food supply chains, food and wine tourism and citizens. Five online training days explore urban food systems, sustainability, local development, community wellbeing, culture and creativity. Participants then work on a practical individual or group project to develop ideas that can contribute to Parma's Food Policy. The Academy combines theory and practice through case studies, tutoring, stakeholder dialogue and in-person activities at Laboratorio Aperto. Final projects are collected in a booklet designed to showcase both participants and proposals. The broader aim is to build new skills and use food as a driver of social, environmental and economic innovation, turning young people's knowledge and creativity into shared local solutions.

The programme begins with preparatory teaching materials and continues with five days of online training, each devoted to a specific area: urban food systems, sustainability, tourism and local development, community wellbeing, and culture and creativity. Each day includes two or three seminars. After the training phase, participants spend five days on an individual or group project, supported by an academic tutor, applying what they have learned to cases and challenges linked to urban food systems. The final phase takes place in person at Laboratorio Aperto and includes coordination and project refinement, a workshop in which proposals are presented to stakeholders, and a cultural and gastronomic visit to the city. The projects are collected as examples of good practice in support of Parma's Food Policy and presented in a booklet dedicated to the participants and the ideas developed.

The activities will be held in English language.
