What is Online Language support?

Online Language Support (OLS) helps Erasmus+ participants improve their knowledge of their main language before and during their stay abroad to ensure better learning mobility.

OLS is simple, free, and flexible. It allows you to improve your language skills in your destination country and measure your progress with a final test at the end of your stay.

Trainees on mobility for at least 14 days can take an OLS assessment test of their language level. Native speakers and those with an official language certification may be exempt.

The test is taken online on the OLS platform before departure.

Students enrolled in Parma going abroad must provide the required OLS language certificate before starting their mobility abroad.

What makes OLS truly effective?

  • A wide choice of languages : 24 European languages (A1–C2) are currently available, including Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, Greek, English, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Swedish and many more, as well as non-EU languages such as Icelandic and Turkish.
  • Total flexibility: enrol individually, choose when and how much to study and follow several languages simultaneously with no limit throughout your three years of access (before, during and after mobility).
  • You start with a CEFR placement test (A1–C2) to identify your level, after which you will receive a personalised course tailored to your needs.
  • Each module includes interactive units and various tests, such as written and oral comprehension quizzes, grammar exercises and step-by-step assignments, with multiple-choice questions and immediate feedback.

Features

At present Online Language Support is aimed at participants from the following Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps sectors:

  • higher education;
  • the European Solidarity Corps;
  • vocational education and training;
  • adult learning (including staff from all education and training and youth sectors);
  • schools;
  • young people.

For more information, please consult the dedicated page on the European Commission's website.

Outgoing students

Students going to a foreign university must undergo an initial assessment. The result must be sent to the O.U. Reception, Mobility and International Students department. A final assessment is scheduled to take place before the end of the mobility period.

The initial test is mandatory for grant purposes.

The final assessment is strongly recommended.

The language required for the initial assessment is the main language of instruction, as specified in the Learning Agreement before the mobility. When registering on the platform, you will be able to select the appropriate language.
