Alma universitas studiorum parmensis A.D. 962 - Università di Parma
EUGreen - European University Alliance for sustainability

Before you depart, it is important to familiarise yourself with the healthcare system in your destination country and the insurance cover provided for UNIPR students on mobility programmes. This page provides useful information tailored to your destination.

You will also find essential information here on whether you need a visa, depending on your citizenship and the location of your placement.

Healthcare

If you go to a European Union country, take your European Health Insurance Card (TEAM) with you. It allows you to receive treatment in public facilities in the host country according to local rules.

Before departure, contact your ASL of residence to find out:

  • whether you need additional documents required by the foreign university;
  • how the reimbursement of medical expenses works.

If your mobility is to a non-EU country (e.g. UK, Switzerland, Turkey), the TEAM is not valid. In this case, you will have to:

  • take out private health insurance, or
  • ask your ASL if there are alternatives.

The European Health Insurance Card

Insurance cover for UNIPR students

During your period abroad you are covered by two insurances automatically activated by the University:

  • Civil liability - Covers any damage caused to third parties during mobility-related activities.
  • Accident (including repatriation) - Covers permanent damage sustained during teaching and institutional activities included in the programme.

Cover applies only during official activities related to the mobility project.

You can download the policies from the dedicated page on the UNIPR website.

In the event of an accident abroad during the course of activities, you must promptly report the claim by following the procedure indicated on the dedicated University page.

Visa procedures

If you are a citizen of the European Union, you can travel freely within the Schengen Area with either:

  • your passport or
  • an identity card that is valid for travel abroad.

Check that your document is valid for at least six months beyond your planned return date. If not, start the renewal process as soon as possible.

Note that not all European countries are part of the Schengen area. Immediately after receiving your assignment, check whether the country requires a study visa and which documents are needed to stay there.

Almost all non-Schengen countries require a study visa. In these cases, be prepared to present the following:

  • health insurance
  • liability insurance
  • documentation proving financial means for the duration of your stay
  • other documents that may be required.

Obtaining a visa can take several weeks. Start the process as soon as you receive the assignment. For further information, contact the consulate of the destination country.
