Electromagnetic fields (EMF) are a physical entity describing the interaction between electric and magnetic fields. They are generated by electrical charges, both static and moving, and propagate through space in the form of waves.
Human exposure to electromagnetic fields is a relatively recent issue, which has become of considerable interest with the massive introduction of telecommunication systems and electricity transmission and distribution systems. In reality, even in the absence of such systems, we are constantly immersed in electromagnetic fields due to all those natural phenomena that can be traced back to electromagnetic nature, first and foremost solar radiation. With the aim of investigating the link between exposure to electromagnetic fields and human health, specific epidemiological studies have been conducted in Italy and abroad since the second half of the 1990s. Electromagnetic field measurements are carried out with special probes.
