Legislative Decree 81/08, in relation to physical agents, introduces in Chapter IV of Title VIII specific health protection rules for workers exposed to electromagnetic fields, which derive from the transposition of European directives.

Justifiable' are defined as EMF exposure conditions that do not entail appreciable health risks, i.e. those that do not involve exceeding the reference levels for the population as set out in current legislation. In these cases, the justification is valid regardless of the amount of work equipment in use.

In the case of equipment that may give rise to exposures exceeding the reference levels for the population, a risk assessment must be carried out, possibly with the aid of specific measurements.
