10% of the Budget
The management of the 10% of the budget befall the relevant Department; for the use of these funds, the PhD student must therefore contact the Administrative Office of the Department itself or their Coordinator/tutor.
PhDs Student Mobility
During the meeting of 25 February 2021 the Administration Board resolved to reserve part of the funds to cover mobility costs, in order to ensure continuity of interventions in support of PhD students’ mobility.

Fees
ALL PhD students enrolled in courses WITH and WITHOUT student scholarship are exempted from the payment of university taxes (resolved by the Academic Organs of the University of Parma in the meetings of 20/04/2023).
All PhD student enrolled in courses are required to pay €156.00 annually (€16.00 stamp tax + €140.00 regional tax) to be paid
- within the enrollment deadline specified in the admission call for students enrolled in the 39th cycle
- within October 31 2022 for students in the 37th and 38th before the beginning of a.y. on 01/11/2023
- within December 31, 2022 for students in the 37th and 38th cycle before the beginning of a.y. on 01/01/2024
- within the month of transition to the following year (check the actual date on your account)for students with REMODULATED EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME
- ! WARNING ! failing to pay by the deadline will result in an immediate freeze of the student’s career and in an additional charge of €50 for DELAYED PAYMENT. The moratorium will persist until amendment is provided.

Obtain the title
The title of Ph.D. is obtained by passing a final exam at the end of the three-year period of attendance, which consists in the discussion of the doctoral thesis.
Deadlines and requirements necessary for participation in the final exam and for the issue of the PhD title are sent by Rector's Order to all students enrolled in the last year of the course.
Suspension and prorogation of studies
For students enrolled up to and including the 37th cycle (included)

Article 6 RIGHTS AND DUTIES OF THE A PHD STUDENT (suspension: Paragraph 10 - there is no prorogation)
- 10) Suspension of the obligations of attendance of the Doctorate, up to a maximum of one year, is allowed in the case of maternity, military service, serious and documented illness and special family situations with interruption of the disbursement of the relevant grant and subsequent recovery upon resumption of regular attendance. The application for suspension is subject to clearance by the Board of Teachers.

For students enrolled since the 38th cycle and onward

Article 6 RIGHTS AND DUTIES OF THE A PHD STUDENT (prorogation: paragraphs 10 - suspension paragraphs 11, 12)

10) Within the last month of the last year of the course, the PhD student can request from the Teaching Board an extension without scholarship for a maximum of twelve months, for proven reasons that do not allow the presentation of the final thesis according the established deadline.
The Teaching Board may also order the extension of the duration of the PhD course for a period not exceeding twelve months, for justified scientific needs related to PhD positions in the context of National or International Projects which provide for a duration of research beyond three years, ensuring in this case the corresponding extension of the duration of the scholarship or equivalent form of support, with funds provided by the related projects.

11) In observance of the rules for the protection of parenthood pursuant to the decree of the Minister of Labour and Social Security of 12 July 2007, published in the Official Gazette of 23 October 2007, n. 247, PhD students can request, due to serious and documented illness or particular family situations, the suspension of the course for a maximum of six months with interruption of the related scholarship and subsequent recovery when regular attendance resumes.
The request for suspension is subject to the authorization of the Teaching Board.
PhD students in suspension retain the right to a scholarship. At the end of the suspension period, the scholarship is paid upon resuming attendance of the course up to the total duration of the scholarship itself.
- 12) The periods of extension and suspension referred to in paragraphs 10) and 11), cannot overall exceed the eighteen months.

- 11) The doctoral student may, at any time, apply to the University for irrevocable waiver of enrollment in the doctoral course or apply for irrevocable waiver of the scholarship alone.

Article 6 RIGHTS AND DUTIES OF A PHD STUDENT (paragraph 13)
- 13) At any time, the PhD student may submit an application to the University for an irrevocable renunciation of enrolment in the course or submit an application for an irrevocable renunciation of the scholarship only.
Financial aid/Scholarship renouncement
SCHOLARSHIP/FINANCIAL AID RENOUNCEMENT FORM - The renouncement takes effect from the date indicated on the form – the scholarship is payed until the day before of the date indicated in the form. All documentation must be signed and sent to the Postgraduate Training Division – Research PhD - dottorati@unipr.it (alongside the copy of identification)
