Italian language: what is the required level?

To access degree programmes, a knowledge of the Italian language at least level B2, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), is required.

IMPORTANT: the required level of Italian must be obtained before enrolment.

The University of Parma recognizes the following language certifications:

  • CELI
  • CILS
  • ROMA3
  • PLIDA

If you do not already hold one of these certifications, you may take the Italian language test organized by the University.

Alternatively, it is possible to submit a declaration of belonging to one of the exemption cases from the Italian language test.
Applicants are invited to carefully check the exemption cases provided by consulting the dedicated page on the Studiare in Italia portal.

Italian language proficiency test

Candidates who who do not meet the above-mentioned requirements must compulsorily take the Italian language proficiency test at the University of Parma in one of the available sessions. 

The Italian language test at the University of Parma is valid for 2 years. 

HOW

The Italian language tests are online in synchronous mode through the University of Parma e-learning platform and Microsoft Teams.

Candidates may only take the test once (only one reservation is possible)

WHEN

The Italian language test of the University of Parma is administered in the following dates: 

  • 8-9-10 April 2026               (registration closing date: 23 March 2026) 
  • 13-14-15 May 2026    (registration closing date: 4 May 2026) 
  • 22-23-24 June 2026    (registration closing date: 14 June 2026) 

The link to the virtual classroom and the exact time of the test are sent via email 2 days before the exam. 

PROCEDURE

To take the test, it is mandatory to (in chronological order): 

  1. sumbit your application for your course of study according to the requirements and procedures listed here; 
  2. register at the University of Parma e-learning platform in the appropriate section (“Italian Language Test Reservation”, please remember that just one registration is possible);  
  3. upload an identity document (passport) and a recent selfie in the appropriate section of the the University of Parma e-learning platform. 

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

The day of the test, candidates must be equipped with 2 devices: 

  • a mobile phone (or another device) connected to Microsoft Teams platform; the mobile phone must be placed in such a way as to frame the candidate, the keyboard and the computer screen; 
  • a computer, equipped with camera, microphone, and speakers, connected to the University of Parma e-learning platform. 

It is mandatory to keep the webcam on for all the duration of the exam. 

Differently, candidates are excluded from the test. 

 

GET PREPARED FOR THE TEST

On the University of Parma e-learning platform.  candidates can find an online preparatory course as well as a mock test, relevant information and other useful materials.

Before taking the test, candidates are warmly invited to read carefully all the information and materials available on the University of Parma e-learning platform.

RESULTS

Candidates receive the results via email through Online Registry Service (Esse3). 

Normally, candidates receive their result after 15-20 days from the date of the test.
