Informations

The Health Physics Service has as its primary task the physical surveillance of the protection of workers and the general public against the risks arising from exposure to ionising radiation, as envisaged by Legislative Decree 101/2020.

It carries out its activities at the University of Parma premises where radioactive substances or radiogenic machines are used, availing itself of the collaboration of Radiation Protection Experts.

It also deals with the assessment of risks due to exposure to physical agents, such as electromagnetic fields and artificial optical radiation, as required by Chapter VIII of Legislative Decree 81/2008.

Collaborators: experts in the specific fields of risk assessment from physical agents

Activities and competences

With regard to the field of ionising radiation, with the contribution of Qualified Experts, all the activities related to radiation protection foreseen by the regulations in force are carried out, from authorisation fulfilments, to periodic inspections of laboratories and equipment, to the classification of personnel and work environments.

For the other physical agents, the physical aspects of the occupational exposure risk are assessed, through the collaboration of personnel experienced in the various fields, taking into account the sources used, the working methods, the environments involved, the limits and the legal provisions.
