How it works

To enrol in single-cycle degree courses in Medicina e chirurgia, Odontoiatria e protesi dentaria and Medicina veterinaria, you must attend the open semester, during which you will be required to attend compulsory classes in Chimica e propedeutica biochimica, Fisica and Biologia for a total of 18 credits (6 per single units).

PLEASE NOTE! You can attend the open semester at a university that is not among those you choose to apply for.

To enrol in Medicina e chirurgia, Odontoiatria e protesi dentaria and Medicina veterinaria 26-27, you must therefore, in order:

  1. apply on the Universitaly portal and enter at least 10 location you want to apply for;
  2. enrol in the filter semester at our University if you want to attend it in Parma.

When registering on Universitaly, you must also indicate another “related” degree program (in the biomedical, health, pharmaceutical, or veterinary field), which you can enrol in if you are not admitted to Medicina e chirurgia, Odontoiatria e protesi dentaria and Medicina veterinaria.
PLEASE NOTE! If you are already enrolled in a related degree programme, you do not need to make this choice, unless you are interested in a different related programme to potentially enrol in should you not successfully complete the open semester.

The filter semester can be repeated for up to three academic years, even if not consecutive.

At the end of the filter semester, you will have to take the exams in the three subjects required. The exams will be the same nationwide and will take place at the same time, on the same day.

The scores obtained in the individual exams will be valid for the national ranking.

You can find out more about all the stages in the following paragraphs.

AFTER THE OPEN SEMESTER

If, at the end of the open semester, you enrol in Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, Veterinary Medicine, or a non-related programme, you will need to pay the annual university fees (personalised university contribution) and, if you have not done so previously, the regional tax and virtual stamp duty (€156), minus the flat-rate fee already paid.

If, at the end of the open semester, you enrol in a related degree programme, you will need to pay the annual university fees (personalised university contribution) and, if you have not done so previously, the regional tax and virtual stamp duty (€156), reduced by 50%.

For all information on university fees and benefits, please visit the relevant section of the website.

Exams

At the end of the filter semester, you will have to take exams in Biologia (6 credits), Chimica e propedeutica biochimica (6 credits) and Fisica (6 credits).

The exams will be the same at the national level and will take place simultaneously, on the same day, in person.

Teaching activities will begin on September 1st and must end no later than ten days before the first exam session, set for December 10th, with results published on December 23rd. The second exam session will take place on January 11th, with results published on January 20th.

Each of the three subjects will involve one test, lasting 50 minutes and consisting of 31 questions, of which:

  • 21 multiple-choice
  • 10 fill-in-the-blank

There will be a 30-minute break between one test and the next.

The scores obtained in the individual exams will be valid for the formation of the national ranking.

You must take at least one of the two exam sessions scheduled for each subject.

If you take both sessions, the one in which you obtained the higher grade will prevail, provided it is equal to or higher than 18/30.

National ranking

Access to the second semester will be determined by your position in the national ranking, calculated based on the results obtained in the exams and published on the Universitaly portal on January 22th, 2027.

The national ranking will in fact be composed of 3 sections:

  1. for those who have passed 3 exams;
  2. for those who have passed 2 exams;
  3. for those who have passed 1 exam.

If you take both sessions, the one in which you obtained the higher grade will prevail, provided it is equal to or higher than 18/30.

If you rank in a favorable position on the list despite not having passed one or two exams, you will be able to make up the missing credits directly at the assigned university, in time to enroll regularly at the start of the second semester.

After the ranking is published, you will have until January 28th to enroll at the assigned university or to withdraw in order to later be assigned to a related course.

Between February 2nd and 5th, the remaining places will be reassigned, with enrollments taking place between February 8th and 10th.

Are you already studying at UniPR?

If you are already enrolled or registered at our University on a related or other degree programme and will also be attending the open semester, you do not need to renew your enrolment for the 2026-2027 academic year or, in the case of first-time registration, proceed with the payment of instalments following the first one.

If, at the end of the filter semester, you are not included in the ranking, you will need to pay the annual university fees (personalised university contribution) and, if you have not done so previously, the regional tax and virtual stamp duty (€156).

PLEASE NOTE! If you have not submitted your application for benefits and your ISEE by the deadlines, you will not be able to obtain reductions or benefits (e.g. a scholarship) at the end of the open semester.

Therefore, even if you are not required to pay enrolment fees before the end of the open semester, we strongly encourage you to submit your benefits application and your ISEE by the relevant deadlines.
