The formalism of the symmetry topological field theory (SymTFT) has emerged as a powerful tool to study generalized global symmetries of quantum systems in diverse dimensions. In this work, we revisit 6d (2,0) superconformal field theories (SCFTs) of type D and their realization in M-theory. We provide a top-down derivation of the SymTFTs that capture their discrete global symmetries, both from the point of view of the low-energy supergravity action on $AdS_7 \times RP^4$ and from M2- and M5-branes giving rise to its topological operators. We find an interplay of non-invertible symmetries and mixed anomalies for absolute 6d (2,0) SCFTs of type $D_{4k}$.
