Abstract: Target space duality, or T-duality, is a notion from string theory: given a model with S^1 symmetry, there is a dual model which yields an equivalent theory. A precise mathematical formulation of T-duality emerged in early 2000s and over time expanded to yield interesting geometric and topological relations between spaces which go well beyond the original string theoretical version for spaces with S^1 symmetry. In this talk I will briefly recall some of the history of T-duality, why it caught attention of mathematicians and physicists and then mention a few recent developments in the mathematical side.
