Concert for Horn Ensemble: ‘Not Just Verdi: Horns from Opera to Film Music’
The programme will focus on the music of Verdi and his contemporaries, alongside film music such as Hans Zimmer’s score for Crimson Tide.
The horn is an instrument with a powerful and evocative sound that has been a constant companion throughout human history, from prehistoric times to the present day. From its hunting and heroic calls to its transformation in nineteenth-century opera into the quintessential romantic instrument, thanks to its deep, resonant tone, the horn possesses many facets, a quality that has enabled it to play a significant role in the music of every era, right up to contemporary film music.
